My inbox seems to indicate that whether we are headed for a recession, people are WORRIED that we are, and how it affects looking for a job.
When over 70% of the jobs are, well, alt-ac, then it’s actually tenure-track or permanent faculty positions that have become the “alternative” career path. If you have to label us working outside of tenure-track faculty, some argue for using career diversity instead.
I saw this story from Southern Illinois University Carbondale this morning, about recruiting “volunteers” to adjunct for them. Um, whut? “Qualified alumni would not teach entire courses, but might deliver an individual lecture, lead a seminar discussion, mentor students or contribute to thesis committees.” Um. Again, what?
